Our Behaviour Consultation Process

Dog in Nature

1

Contact Your Vet for a Referral

Our first step to booking a behaviour consultation is for us to obtain a veterinary referral from your vet. This is to rule out any underlying medical factors which could be contributing to the behaviour. We can then liaise with your vet after the consultation to provide them with a copy of the report which will include any findings which might indicate a physiological issue or if we feel management medication may be beneficial.

2

Complete Our Behaviour Background Questionnaire

Our Behaviour Background Questionnaire allows us to obtain details of your dog's behaviour, environment and routine so we can approach the issue holistically. Please be thorough when completing this form as every little detail could provide us with insight into why your dog is performing the behaviour/s.

3

Let's Get Started

Once we have the Vet Referral Form and Behaviour Background Questionnaire, we can then review this information and arrange a date and time for your consultation. For more details on what the consultation will consist of, please see below.

What Will Happen During The
Consultation?

If you're anything like me and like to know ALL the details; this is how our consultations work:

  1. The consultation will take place at your home (or in some cases via zoom call) and last up to two hours. Here we will go through any questions we have for you after a thorough review of your behaviour questionnaire, and we may take some further history details which may be easier for you to expand on in person, followed by an explanation of the behaviour and advice on management techniques you can implement straight away.

  2. Within 7-10 days you will receive your full, extensive consultation report which will include details of what was covered during the consultation including an explanation of your dog's behaviour, a behaviour modification or "treatment plan" and training tips to guide you along the way.

  3. This report and a short summary of what has been covered will be sent onto your referring vet, and we will liaise with them regarding any physiological or medical aspects which might have been discussed during the consultation.

  4. We will then arrange a follow up for 2-3 months post-consultation where we can check in with your dog's progress and manage any changes in behaviour.

*Please note, due to the nature of working toward Full CCAB  (Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist) Status, consultations may also be supervised by a Fully Certified Behaviourist. This means that you will get the combined knowledge and experience from two behaviourists but at a significantly reduced rate.
